Miami, FL : South Florida man was daed after the dirt bike he was riding in collided with a sport utility vehicle on Saturday night October 25th 2014
A South Florida man was killed Saturday after the dirt bike he was riding in collided with a sport utility vehicle in Miami, officials said.
According to Miami Police, around 7 p.m. 24-year-old Raymond Rodriguez was heading eastbound on Northwest 58th Street when he hit the side of the SUV at Northwest Fifth Avenue. "The vehicle was apparently trying to make a left-hand turn when the dirt bike rider came right into him, hit the car," said Miami Police spokesperson Frederica Burden. "No lights on, no helmet on, which caused grave injury."
Police said the cyclist was unresponsive at the crash site and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where more than a dozen of Rodriguez's family and friends waited anxiously to hear from doctors. Just before 9 p.m., he was pronounced dead.
Upon hearing Rodriguez did not survive, heartbroken loved ones screamed inconsolably.
Relatives said the accident took place close to Rodriguez's home, adding he was his mother's youngest child.
Speaking through a translator, Rodriguez's uncle said his nephew was a kind, well-liked person. "He was a good guy and got along with everyone, but he got on the bike today, and today was his day to go," said Roberto Rivera.
The driver of the SUV was not injured and remained on the scene.
