Sacramento, CA : Wheatland teen dies in Placer County crash on Monday, January 16th 2017

A Wheatland teenager was killed Monday night in a six-car accident on Highway 65 near Blue Oaks Boulevard in Placer County, according to California Highway Patrol.

Robert Thomas Wilson, 18, graduated from Wheatland Union High School just last year, was getting ready to start college and was an active member of the Truth Tabernacle church in Marysville.

Auburn CHP Public Information Officer David Martinez said a BMW rear-ended a big rig in the number two lane headed north on Highway 65 at about 8 p.m.

The BMW was stuck, blocking the lane, and the big rig pulled onto the shoulder out of the way. Three other cars stopped behind the BMW, including the white Mitsubishi Lancer that Wilson and three others were in. A large truck ran into the Mitsubishi and overturned.

"Everybody in all of those cars except the big rig was taken to the hospital," Martinez said. Wilson was the lone fatality.

It took about three hours to clear the scene with help from the Roseville Police Department.

Martinez said neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected to be involved.

John Floe, assistant pastor for the church Wilson attended, spoke highly of the youth he'd known for 12 years. Floe was with Wilson's family Monday night.

"He was a great, great kid. So awesome," Floe said Tuesday. "He was well known and well liked."

Floe said Wilson was with three other church friends on his way home from spending the day at the Roseville Galleria and a Rocklin trampoline park.

Wilson played guitar at every Sunday church service.

A GoFundMe account for funeral expenses, created by church friends John and Kim Mullikan, described Wilson as "an amazing godly young man who touched so many (lives). He will forever be remembered for his smile, kind heart, and love for not only God but his family and friends."

Facebook documented prayers, well-wishes and memories friends and family shared, including his father.

"My loving son died today. He was not only my son (but) one of my closest friends," Robert Wilson wrote. "I will truly miss him. Pray for me and my family."

Wilson wrestled for Wheatland Union High School, was going to start classes at Yuba College this week and recently started dating his first girlfriend, Floe said.

"He had asked permission from her dad to date her," Floe said. "He's just a top-notch guy and it's just so hard to believe; I can't even believe it's real."
