NEWTON, NC : A woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a car crash on Sunday, October, 15th 2017
A woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a car crash that left one SUV overturned and one truck against a utility pole, according to a Newton Police Department press release.
NPD officers responded to the accident Sunday evening at the intersection of Northwest Boulevard on U.S. Highway 321 and West Seventh Street, according to the release.
The initial investigation indicates the truck was struck by the SUV; a witness who stated he was traveling behind the SUV said their direction did have a green traffic signal at the time of the accident, according to the release.
Joanne Lisa Cigna, 44, of Florida, was pronounced deceased by emergency personnel at the scene, according to the release.
Cigna was a passenger in the truck driven by Ashley Marie Taylor, 32, of Newton.
Taylor was transported from the scene via Catawba County Emergency Medical Services to Catawba Valley Medical Center; Taylor was then airlifted to Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte and is listed in stable condition, according to the release.
The driver of the SUV, Debra Miller Huss, 62, of Newton, was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Two granddaughters of Huss were treated at the scene of the accident, according to the release.
