Killeen,TX : Man who died in crash was driving stolen car, police say on may, Tuesday 30th 2017
The vehicle that crashed into the Texas Army National Guard building early Tuesday was stolen from a nearby automotive repair shop.
Killeen police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez confirmed the vehicle theft in a news release sent out Wednesday.
Killeen police said 30-year-old Brian Nicholas Dick was driving a blue Pontiac on Little Nolan Road at “a high rate of speed” about 7 a.m. Tuesday when he hit a dip in the road and lost control of the car.
A preliminary investigation found that when he tried to correct the vehicle’s course, he crashed into the Texas Army National Guard Armory. He was not wearing a seat belt, and ejected from the car. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced him dead at 7:25 a.m.
Natalie Ballheimer and Alexander Purcell are the owners of the car, and said in a phone interview that they left the 2005 Pontiac GTO at a Killeen automotive shop at the end of April for the engine to be worked on.
They learned that the car was stolen around noon on Monday, and got video surveillance footage that showed the car being stolen around 4 a.m.
