Bus crash injured 3 people in Wallingford

A bus carrying three students was involved in a crash in Wallingford Thursday morning.

Police said the short-style bus and a Toyota Camry collided on Highland Avenue, just south of its intersection with Highland Drive.

It happened around 8:11 a.m., according to police.

Three Betsy Ross Magnet School students were onboard along with the bus driver. They were picking up a fourth student at the time.

Police said the bus was stopped with its warning lights flashing. They also said the fourth student was stepping onto the bus when the collision occurred.

The child was knocked to the ground.

Everyone was transported to hospitals with minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the car, 42-year-old Darren Ford of Meriden, suffered a head laceration and was hospitalized for treatment and further evaluation.

Highland Avenue was closed for two hours while police investigated.

They were still looking into what caused the collision.
