Four people were injured in a rear-end collision west of Asheboro Tuesday morning, according to a report from the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The accident happened just after 8 a.m. on U.S. 64 near Carriage Way Road.
Trooper D.S. Payne of the N.C. Highway Patrol reported that an eastbound 2016 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by Anna Elizabeth Hunt Scheinert ran into the back of a 2016 Honda passenger car that had stopped for traffic in front of it. After the impact, the SUV stopped in the road, while the car crossed the center line and spun around; it came to rest facing west on Carriage Way Road.
Jennifer Miles Copeland, 37, of 234 Applegate Lane, Asheboro, was driving the car. According to Payne’s report, she and her passengers, Nathaniel Cage Copeland, 12, and Macayla Lynn Copeland, 9, were taken to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greenboro. The report listed Macayla Copeland’s injuries as disabling; injuries to Jennifer and Nathaniel Copeland were listed as “possible.” No condition reports were available from the hospital on Wednesday.
Scheinert, 27, of 568 Cable Creek Road, Asheboro, was transported to Randolph Health, where she was treated and released. Hunt McCoy Scheinert, 2, a passenger in the SUV, was not hurt.
