Lawrenceville, GA : Toddler struck, killed by vehicle outside Lawrenceville home on Tuesday afternoon, March 21, 2017

A nearly 2-year-old girl died after she was hit by a car on Memory Lane in Lawrenceville Tuesday afternoon.

Cpl. Michele Pihera said the girl was hit in front of her house. When police arrived at about 4 p.m., they found her suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center.

“Unfortunately, she passed away as a result of those injuries,” Pihera said.

Pihera said the driver fled the scene after hitting the child. She said police found the person they believe to be the driver once they investigated the scene further and have taken that person into custody.

But investigators still aren’t sure about the details of what happened, Pihera said.

“There is evidence of the collision in the roadway and in the driveway of the home,” she said. “Investigators are continuing to search for further evidence and information to determine the cause of this tragic incident.”

Until then, Pihera said Gwinnett police extend condolences to the toddler’s family.

“Incidents involving the death of a very young child are always difficult for the community and law enforcement,” Pihera said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they deal with this tragic loss.”
