Meriden, KS : Teen killed in crash in the 9700 block of N.W. K-4 highway on Sunday, 16th February, 2020
A teenager was killed Sunday morning when the car he was driving and a semi-tanker collided in the 9700 block of N.W. K-4 highway in Jefferson County, causing that highway to be shut down for more than eight hours in that area, authorities said.
The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the youth as Kyler Michael Postma, 16, of Ozawkie.
The other driver, 39-year-old Michael Keith Stanwix, of Grantville, complained of pain and was thought to have been possibly injured, according to a highway patrol accident report.
That report indicated the crash occurred about 9:30 a.m. when a 2005 Chrysler Sebring driven by Postma, who was alone going south on K-4, went into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason and struck a semi-tanker driven by Stanwix, who was alone driving north on K-4.
K-4 continued to be blocked off in the area involved at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, a highway patrol dispatcher said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the accident report said.
