MEMPHIS, TN : Man dies after jumping out of moving ambulance, getting hit by car on Saturday, 15th October 2016

A man is dead after he jumped out of a moving ambulance.

Police said the man was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 240 near the 385 ramp after escaping the ambulance.

Police said the man, 37, removed his restraints from the gurney, opened the back door, jumped from a moving ambulance, and was hit by the vehicle just before 9 p.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

"We were looking for the accident,” witness Asia Walker said. “There must have been a bad accident, because they were telling us that we couldn't go that way."

Police identified the driver as Warren Ricks, 39. He was taken into custody for outstanding felony warrants/DUI charges.

"I'm not riding behind an ambulance anymore,” Walker said, “I will get over."

Officers have not identified the victim.
