Albany, NY : Motorcyclist badly injured after the vehicle collided with an tractor trailer on Route 9 in Schodack Tuesday morning, September 13, 2016

An East Greenbush man was killed Tuesday after his motorcycle collided head-on with a tractor trailer on Route 9, police said.

Douglas E. Noble, 39, was heading south on the highway just after 8:30 a.m. when he crashed into the truck, which was turning left into a gas station parking lot, and was thrown off, Schodack Police Chief Bernhard Peter said.

When police got to the scene, they found Noble in the parking lot of the Goodyear Tire Store He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Peter said motorcyclist had the right of way.
"We don't know why the motorcycle didn't slow down or come to a stop," Peter said. Route 9 is a 55 mph zone.
The truck driver, Sergii O. Slebeziuke, 39, of the Monroe County town of Penfield, was unhurt. The truck company is Velocity Transport of Nashville, Tenn. Schodack and state police are investigating and charges against the driver are pending, the chief said.
"It looks like we may have a failure to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn," Peter said.
The motorcycle is so crushed, Peter did not know the type of bike. "There are no identifying features," he said.

Investigators were also testing the tractor-trailer's functions. It was loaded with individual-sized soda bottles.

Truckers with no connection to the accident watched from a Pilot Truck Stop.
"This is what you never want," one man said, sighing heavily and shaking his head.
Noble became a Clinton Heights firefighter when he was 17 and was still active, Fire Chief Seth Tracy said.
"Doug always gave his all whether at a drill or on scene and was held in the highest regard by his fellow firefighters. The passing of Firefighter Noble is a tremendous loss to the fire service. His devotion to duty, his commitment to serve, and his support of his brothers and sisters in our fire department will be long remembered," Tracy said.
