Whiteside County, IL : One dies, one injured in collision with train in rural Whiteside County today on Friday, 24th April, 2020

A 65-year-old Erie man is dead and his 16-year-old passenger seriously injured after their vehicle was struck by a train around 12:30 today in rural Whiteside County.

The man was northbound on Smit Road near Moline Road when he went through a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway crossing and was struck on the driver's side, Sheriff John Booker said in a news release.

He died at the scene.
