A West Columbia motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle collision early Sunday morning and one of the other drivers was charged with DUI.
Larry Edgar Williams, 65, died at the scene of the accident, in the 700 block of Old Barnwell Road in Lexington County, coroner Margaret Fisher said in a news release.
Williams was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet when the collision occurred, Fisher said. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Fisher added.
Catherine Crumley, 52, the driver of a 2005 Suzuki SUV, was arrested and charged with felony DUI, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Williams and the driver of the other vehicle were heading west on Old Barnwell Road at 10:50 a.m. Crumley, a West Columbia resident, was going in the opposite direction when she allegedly went left of center on the road, side swiping one vehicle and striking Williams and his motorcycle head on, according to the the S.C. Highway Patrol.
An autopsy will be performed Monday. The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating.
