wo people in a stolen car were killed when its driver lost control and crashed into a pole early Thursday in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said the crash happened about 1:15 a.m. The driver of a 2010 Kia, which had been reported stolen, exited Florida’s Turnpike onto the northbound lanes of Orange Blossom Trail, then lost control near Landstreet Road. The car left the roadway and hit a pole, FHP said.
In a statement, the agency said the car “was split into two pieces” by the impact.
Two passengers, neither of whom were wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the crash.
The driver and one of the passengers — 17-year-old Darrin Grant, of Orlando — were pronounced dead at the scene.
As of 2:20 p.m. Thursday, troopers were still working to identify the driver. A second passenger, identified as 19-year-old Traynard Poiter, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
His injuries were considered “serious,” the FHP statement said.
The crash remains under investigation.
