WEST PALM BEACH, FL : Delray man, 28, dies after wreck, police tasing in West Palm on Wednesday, 17th July 2019
A Delray Beach man died early Wednesday after fleeing from police in Boynton Beach, crashing in West Palm Beach and being tased by an officer, West Palm police said.
Omar Shado Stevens, 28, allegedly sped off in a 2016 red Nissan Rogue when Boynton Beach police officers tried to pull him over at 1:11 a.m. They last saw him heading north on Interstate 95 from Gateway Boulevard, according to a West Palm police news release.
Ten minutes later, Stevens allegedly ran a red light at Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and North Tamarind Avenue and crashed into a car that was heading west. One person was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center with injuries. That person is expected to survive, according to police.
Someone who called 911 about the wreck told a dispatcher that a shirtless man wearing blue jeans had a knife in his hand and tried to take the phone.
“He’s bloodied,” the caller to a dispatcher. The caller said the man left his car and fled the crash scene heading north along Tamarind.
