Riverside, CA : 8th-grader struck, killed by car while heading to school in Riverside on Wednesday, November 12, 2014

A 13-year-old boy heading to school has been struck and killed by a driver in a Riverside crosswalk. The eighth-grader was struck shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday as he rode his scooter across a street on his way to Sierra Middle School. Authorities say the driver ran a red light. Police say the 44-year-old man stopped and was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription drugs. Grief counselors were sent to the school.
