A deadly crash, a passenger riding in a taxi died today when the driver of that cab lost control and went off the freeway crashing into a pole. Witnesses say the cab was driving along I-10 this afternoon when it went off the freeway near 40th Street, hitting one of those large metal poles. Shortly after it hit the pole, the cab caught fire.
“Luckily, graciously we had some bystanders grab these individuals out of the car while it was on fire,” said Captain Benjamin Santillan with the Phoenix Fire Department. “…our thoughts are with her right now she was found pulseless and not breathing.”
That woman, 70-year-old Darlene Davidson of Felch, MI., died at the hospital. There were two other people in the cab and both are in the trauma center tonight in critical condition. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
