Port Orange, FL : Motorcyclist hit by Port Orange officer, ejected in crash on Sunday, December 21, 2014
Dunlawton Avenue reopens after a police officer struck a motorcyclist in Volusia County.
It happened around 12:50 a.m. Sunday on Dunlawton Avenue at Village Trail, near Halifax Health Medical Center of Port Orange.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Officer Silvio Portillo, 27, was westbound on Dunlawton Avenue he struck Andrew McIlvain, 39, on a motorcycle, which looked like a scooter.
McIlvain was ejected onto the cruiser's hood and windshield.
He was rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center with critical injuries. The officer sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The westbound lanes of Dunlawton were closed for several hours as law enforcement investigated. The road reopened around 7 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
