Two people were killed motorcycle crashes that happened on Friday, according to a release from the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
The first fatal crash happened at 10:08 a.m. in Summerset. Margaret Rand, 65, of Parker, was driving a 1996 Dodge Intrepid south on Sturgis Road when she made a left turn at Stage Stop Road.
At about the same time, Douglas Kellar, 56, of Adams, N.Y., was driving a motorcycle north on Sturgis Road and was thrown from his motorcycle as he attempted to avoid Rand. Kellar then collided with Rand's vehicle.
Keller, who was wearing a helmet, died as a result of injuries. Rand was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, according to the Highway Patrol.
Rand was cited for failure to yield.
The second fatality happened at 8:59 p.m. on South Dakota Highway 244 about five miles west of Mount Rushmore. A man, who's name won't be released until his family is notified, lost control of his motorcycle while entering a gradual curve, went off the road and struck a rock outcropping, according to the Highway Patrol.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The man was not wearing a helmet.
