McHENRY, IL : 2-vehicle crash in McHenry results in DUI charges on February, Wednesday 14th 2018
Two alleged drunken drivers crashed into each other Wednesday morning in McHenry.
Both were arrested and charged with driving under the influence after being treated for minor injuries, McHenry police said in a news release.
Gamaliel Herrera, 33, of McHenry was leaving the Shell gas station at 3110 W. Route 120 in a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic when he collided with Carrie L. Scott, 45, of McHenry as she traveled west on Route 120 in a 2007 Jeep Patriot, police said.
The vehicles had moderate damage, McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Mike Majercik said, and two passengers in addition to the drivers were taken to hospitals with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Two people were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, and two were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Centegra Hospital – McHenry was on bypass, Majercik said, meaning incoming patients had to be taken to emergency rooms that were less busy.
Herrera, of the 1400 block of North Chapel Hill Road, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and failure to yield when entering a roadway from a private drive, police said.
Scott, of the 3500 block of West Waukegan Road, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, operating an uninsured vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol, police said.
If convicted of the most serious charges, both drivers could face up to a year in prison.
Neither were being held in the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday night, a jail official said.
