Nashville, TN : Man died, niece critically injured in crash on Interstate 440 on Wednesday afternoon, Aug 19, 2015

Metro police have identified the man who was killed in a crash on Interstate 440 on Wednesday afternoon.

Hussain B. Al-Sarhan, 49, was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette van when he was hit head-on by a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder near Interstate 65 around 4 p.m.

The driver of the Nissan, 22-year-old Adam Cogdal, said he was in the westbound lanes when another car came into his lane, causing him to swerve to avoid getting hit. Cogdal's vehicle then went over the grass median and into the eastbound lanes, hitting Al-Sarhan's van.

Al-Sarhan's three daughters, two nieces and nephew were also in his van. His niece, 11-year-old Zeinab, is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The five other children have non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated at Vanderbilt.

Cogdal was taken to Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed at this time, but police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
