Opelika, AL : 7-year-old Smiths Station girl dies in 4-wheeler accident on Christmas Day on Sunday, December 25th 2016

A 7-year-old Smiths Station girl died following a four-wheeler accident on Sunday, according to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.

Authorities received a call reporting an ATV accident at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Christmas Day. The girl was riding a four-wheeler with an adult family member when it left the road and struck a utility pole.

The girl was found unresponsive at the scene and was was transported to Midtown Medical Center. She was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 1:07 p.m.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
