A 47-year-old man died Friday night in a motorcycle accident in Clinton Township -- the latest fatality in Macomb County involving a motorcycle in recent weeks.
Clinton Township police said Friday’s incident took place on Romeo Plank Road south of Hall Road (M-59).According to an eyewitness account and police, “The motorcycle turned off Hall Road onto southbound Romeo Plank at a high-rate of speed. The driver of the motorcycle was unable to manage the curve in the roadway and struck a guardrail.”
The man died at the scene, police said. His name has not been released.
The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, according to police. It is unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol were involved.
Friday’s crash is the fifth fatal collision involving motorcycles in recent days in Macomb County.
A 46-year-old Macomb Township man died after the motorcyle he was riding collided with an automobile pulling into a Chesterfield Township gas station, according to police. On July 26, an SUV collided with a motorcyclist in Sterling Heights. The 44-year-old man from Shelby Township died at the scene. On July 22, a 20-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a St. Clair Shores police car driven by an officer who was making a U-turn on Eight Mile Road to make a traffic stop. The investigation of that incident was turned over to the Michigan State Police.
A 46-year-old Macomb Township man died after the motorcycle he was riding struck a vehicle that was on the shoulder of eastbound Interstate 94 near 12 Mile Road, at approximately 1 a.m. July 24.
