Blountville,TN : Fatal tractor-trailer crash at I-81 overpass on November, Wednesday 29th 2017

One man is dead and another in critical condition after a tractor-trailer plunged off Interstate 81 between two bridges in Blountville Wednesday morning.

According to Sgt. Nathan Hall of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at approximately 7 a.m. A northbound Fed-Ex truck entered the median, jumped a berm at the Exit 69 overpass and landed on Highway 394 below.

The cab of the tractor was demolished in the crash. The THP says one of the two male occupants was killed, while the other endured head trauma and is hospitalized.

Investigators are working to determine who was behind the wheel and what caused the driver to run off the interstate. The truck had departed Nashville and was headed to Pennsylvania.

A lengthy cleanup of the scene closed Highway 394 under I-81 for several hours. A THP investigation into the incident is continuing.
