Simpsonville,SC : Coroner identifies Upstate man killed after striking median on I-385 North in Simpsonville on September, Saturday 9th 2017

I-385 North was blocked near between Fairview and West Georgia roads in the Simpsonville area Saturday night after a deadly crash, Simpsonville police.

Troopers reported the crash happened just after 8:35 p.m. near mile marker 28.

Simpsonville police say three vehicles were involved.

One person was killed and two others were taken to the hospital with injuries but are expected to recover.

The victim was identified as 63-year-old Joe Steven Black of Simpsonville.

The coroner said Black was not wearing a seat belt when he was traveling south on N Industrial Drive from Cox Street. Black then turned right, drove through a fence and entered the interstate striking the median barrier wall, the coroner said.

Two other vehicles that were traveling North on I-385 struck the decedent's vehicle. Black was pronounced dead on scene at 8:47 p.m. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.

Police said traffic was being detoured onto Fairview Road and back onto the frontage road and back to I-385 via West Georgia Road.

The interstate reopened to northbound traffic just before midnight.

This incident is under investigation by the coroner's office and Simpsonville Police.
