Kilgore,TX : Two killed in head-on wreck on 259 Bypass on March, Sunday 18th 2018

Two people died following a head-on collision on the Hwy. 259 Bypass Sunday afternoon, including a 19-year-old Kilgore High School alum and a 79-year-old Overton woman.

Mary Virginia Cameron’s vehicle reportedly crossed into the path of Dakota Patrick Harris’ car shortly before 4 p.m. March 18.

According to a Kilgore Police Department release, officers were dispatched to the Charles Devall Parkway at 3:58 p.m. Sunday following a wreck just north of FM 349.

“Initial investigation revealed a 2009 Nissan Sentra, which was traveling southbound, crossed over into the oncoming traffic lane and struck a 1999 Saturn,” KPD Assistant Chief Roman Roberson reported.

Cameron was behind the vehicle of the Nissan, KPD noted, when the car moved into the path of the Saturn driven by Harris.

The 19-year-old was life-flighted in critical condition to Christus – Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He died later from his injuries. Cameron, too, was transported from the scene in critical condition and succumbed to her injuries later at Christus – Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.

“The crash is still under investigation."

Anyone with information on the fatal incident should contact KPD Traffic Officer Jason Roman at 903-983-1559, case number 1803-1237.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to offset Harris' funeral costs. As of press time, the drive had raised $1,940 of a $5,000 goal via gofundme.com/5agvq1k.

"He was an amazing young man with so much to offer this world," said Kathryn Dixon, the Kilgore College student's aunt. "His sense of humor made everyone around him happy. He had great friends and his family and friends will miss him terribly."

Funeral details were unavailable for Cameron.
