Waco, TX : A 4-year-old boy was severely injured in a two-vehicle crash in South Waco on April, Thursday 20th 2017

A 4-year-old boy was severely injured in a two-vehicle crash in South Waco on Thursday night, Waco police Sgt. David Conley said.

Police were called to the intersection of South 18th Street and Webster Avenue at about 9 p.m., after a white sedan headed south on 18th reportedly ran a red light at Webster Avenue and was T-boned by a Black Chevrolet Suburban headed east on Webster, Conley said. The driver of the sedan was traveling with his wife, their 4-year-old son and an infant.

"The 4-year-old child was not properly restrained in a car seat. The infant was seated in a car seat," Conley said. "The 4-year-old suffered severe head trauma from the crash."

The infant child did not suffer any noticeable injuries but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The 4-year-old boy was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center before he was transferred to McLane Children's Scott & White Hospital in Temple for additional treatment, Conley said.

The children's mother may have suffered a punctured lung in the crash and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the sedan did not appear to have serious injuries, Conley said.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash, but nothing indicates alcohol or drug intoxication was a factor, he said.

The driver of the Suburban, an adult passenger and two teenage passengers were not seriously injured and did not require transportation to a local hospital, Conley said. Occupants of both vehicles are Waco residents.

Accident reconstruction detectives remained at the intersection late Thursday night investigating the crash.

No additional information was immediately available.
