Hollywood, FL : 63-year-old man dies in one-auto crash on Sunday, April 3, 2016
Man died Sunday after he drove onto a Lower Keys shoulder, tried to correct himself and his truck flipped on U.S. 1.
The 63-year-old man, whose name wasn't released pending next of kin, was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger north on U.S. 1 at mile marker 24 about 11:10 a.m. when, in congested traffic, he drove onto the unpaved shoulder, over-corrected trying to get back on the road and then "began to roll over onto the southbound lane of U.S. 1 in the same direction of travel," the Florida Highway Patrol said.
He ended up getting tossed from the truck and his truck hit a tree, where it came to rest about 23 feet off U.S. 1. He was flown to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where he died at 1:12 p.m.
It was the Keys' fifth traffic fatality of the year outside Key West and the sixth overall.
