First responders were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash on U.S. 35 near North Royal Center Pike south of Royal Center at about 6:20 p.m. May 9.

Cass County Sheriff's Sgt. "It probably rolled twice," Armstrong said.

Firefighters extricated Teresa Ortman, 62, Winamac, who was trapped in the front passenger seat. Armstrong said she suffered injuries to her legs and was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital by Prompt Ambulance Service.

Armstrong said Donald Ortman reported he may have fallen asleep while driving in the moments leading up to the crash. Donald Ortman was not seriously injured, Armstrong added.

When family members of the Ortmans' arrived, first responders helped transfer groceries from the totaled vehicle.
