PORTER, ME : A single-car crash that injured seven teenagers on Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Maine State Police say alcohol was a factor in a single-car crash that injured seven teenagers Tuesday night.

WCSH-TV reports (http://on.wcsh6.com/2wRBG9b ) the crash happened around 11:45 p.m. in Porter. State police say four men and three women, all ages 18 or 19, were in a car when it slammed into a tree.

According to officials, five teens in the car were taken to Maine Medical Center. State police say two of the three women were seriously injured and remained hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon.

According to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. State police are investigating how the teens got the alcohol.

State police are withholding their names as the investigation continues.
