Topeka, KS : Car evading police crashes into another vehicle on Wednesday, November, 29th 2017
Police took one suspect into custody Wednesday night after officers chased and followed a reported stolen vehicle into Independence and then it crashed into another vehicle.
The crash happened at 9:03 p.m. at U.S. 24 and Lee’s Summit Road in northern Independence, less than a half-hour after an Independence patrol officer first spotted the vehicle. The male suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured. Two people in the non-offending vehicle were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.
An IPD officer first spotted the vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Prairie Village, Kansas, at 8:37 p.m. Wednesday. The officer tracked it into Kansas City but did not pursue, and Kansas City police and Jackson County sheriff’s deputies assisted as the suspect vehicle turned back into Independence. The pursuit started at 17th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard, just east of the Kansas City border, police said, but officers ended the pursuit and simply followed once a Kansas City police helicopter was tracking overhead.
The suspect had multiple outstanding felony warrants from both Kansas City and Jackson County, police said.
