Tulsa, OK : Motorcyclist killed in head-on collision on U.S. 412 west of downtown on Sunday, October, 29th 2017
A motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon when he was hit head-on by an SUV that leapt a cable barrier dividing the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Keystone Expressway.
Emergency responders shut down all eastbound traffic on U.S. 412 at Gilcrease Museum Road about 4:30 p.m.
Tulsa Fire equipment operator Clayton Newell said the SUV was westbound when it went up and over the cable barrier and crossed into the eastbound lanes under the Union Avenue overpass.
The SUV struck a westbound motorcycle that appears to have gone up over the hood and in through the windshield of the SUV, which came to rest on its right side on the roadway.
“The motorcycle and both people on the motorcycle were in the SUV,” Newell said. “It looks to be that they went in through the windshield.”
Newell said the motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene. As of 5:30 p.m., the motorcycle driver’s body was still inside the wreckage as local emergency responders waited for a medical examiner to arrive on scene.
The male driver of the SUV and a female passenger on the motorcycle were transported to St. John Medical Center.
Newell said the SUV driver is listed in critical condition while the motorcycle passenger is listed in stable condition.
Witnesses said they saw firefighters use the jaws of life to extricate crash victims.
Brandy Ledgerwood and her girlfriend Molly Hughes were walking their dog on the Katy Trail on the south side of the expressway when they heard the wreck.
