Colonie, NY : One person killed in four-vehicle crash on suburban Albany on Tuesday October 11 2016

State police say an 18-year-old woman was the person killed in a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash on a suburban Albany highway.

Troopers say a 41-year-old woman was traveling east on Route 7 in the town of Colonie (kahl-uh-NEE’) around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday when it struck a second vehicle traveling in the eastbound lanes. This caused the first vehicle to cross the median and enter the westbound lanes, where it struck two other vehicles.

Police say the driver of one of those two vehicles, Paige Ahearn, of Waterford, suffered fatal injuries.

Two of the drivers of the other three vehicles suffered minor injuries.

The crash shut down the westbound lanes for several hours.

Troopers say alcohol appears to have contributed to the crash. Their investigation is continuing.

This story has been changed to correct location of crash to highway instead of hospital.
