Mt.Juliet, TN :2 children injured after car becomes wedged under tanker on I-40 on Thursday, July 2nd 2015
Two children sustained non-life threatening injuries after a car became wedged under a tanker on Interstate 40 East in Mt. Juliet Thursday morning.The accident happened around mile marker 226 around 9 a.m., initially closing all lanes of traffic to motorists after the tanker began leaking fuel.According to Mt. Juliet police, the accident occurred when the 33-year-old driver of 2014 Nissan Maxima that was traveling in the far left lane lost control during heavy rain.The Nissan exited the left lane and entered into the right lane where it struck the tanker. The tanker truck then traveled over the top of the car, causing it to become wedged underneath it.According to crews on the scene, the driver did not realize the other vehicle was underneath the tanker and dragged it a short distance.Police said a 9-year-old and 11-year-old were both transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with non-life threatening injuries.The driver of the tanker was not injured.
All lanes of Interstate 40 reopened to motorists around 1 p.m. The Tennessee Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation, alongside multiple other agencies.Westbound lanes were not affected.
