Salt Lake City, UT : Man killed in semi vs. car crash on I-80 on Friday, April 22, 2016

The Utah Highway Patrol has identified a man killed when a semi-trailer rig slammed into a compact car on Interstate 80 as Andy W. Lew, of Spanish Fork.

Troopers say that Lew, 38, was killed instantly when the big rig struck the Dodge Neon, in which he was a rear-seat passenger. The crash took place at 5:11 a.m. Friday, 23 miles east of the Utah-Nevada state line.

The semi hit the Neon as it was either stopped or traveling very slow in the right travel lane. The truck was traveling about 65 mph at the time, UHP reported.

The collision crushed and propelled the car off the right side of the freeway, killing a 38-year-old male backseat passenger, Andy W. Lew, instantly.

The 34-year-old female driver and a 35-year-old passenger, also a woman, were seriously injured. They remained in Salt Lake City area hospitals on Saturday.

The semi's driver, uninjured, pulled over and called 911 as he rushed back to check on the car and its occupants, UHP said.
