A 7-year-old child died Friday night, after being thrown from an SUV in a single-vehicle crash on La. 405, south of La. 1 in Ascension Parish, State Police said.
Thaddeus Johnson Jr. of Donaldsonville died in the crash that happened shortly before 6 p.m. Friday. The driver, Delacy Howard, 35, also of Donaldsonville, was traveling north on La. 405 in a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, when
for unknown reasons, he failed to make a left-hand curve and ran off the right side of the road, State Police said in a news release.
Thaddeus, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office.
Howard and three surviving passengers, all juveniles, were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from moderate to severe. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken
from Howard for analysis. Charges are pending, state police said.
