Titusville, FL : One person killed and six injured in a three-vehicle crash Interstate 95 in Brevard County on Sunday morning, Nov 1, 2015

One person was killed and six were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Brevard County that closed southbound lanes of Interstate 95 Sunday morning, troopers say.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m., Florida Highway Patrol said, as one car tried to pass another on the innermost southbound lane of I-95, near mile marker 199.

As a Mercedes-Benz C250, driven by 22-year-old Annette Marie Soto Diaz, attempted to pass a Toyota Camry, driven by Cynthia Tzoc, the front of the Mercedes struck the rear of the Camry, troopers say.

According to a release, the Camry "was redirected to the left," and it hit the dividing wall. The Camry and Mercedes came to a stop in a dark area on of the innermost southbound lane of the road, troopers say.

As a 24-year-old Palm Bay woman tried to leave the front passenger side of the Mercedes, a third vehicle approached.

Karthik Raju, 25, was behind the wheel of the Dodge Dart, which was headed southbound on I-95. Though he tried to avoid the two cars in the road—hitting the brakes and turning to the right—the front of the vehicle hit the right side of the Mercedes.

The Palm Bay woman, whose identity was not released pending next of kin notification, was pronounced dead on the scene, the release reads. Diaz and another passenger, 25-year-old Andrea Marie Millen, of Palm Bay, sustained minor injuries.

Jena Rae Randone, 24, and 21-year-old Deryl Wilson, both of Melbourne, had also been passengers in the Mercedes. Their injuries were listed as serious in the release.

Both Tzoc and her passenger, Arlene Robitaille, sustained serious injuries, FHP says.

After the Dodge Dart came to a stop in the right shoulder of the road, the car ignited. Raju and his three passengers got out of the vehicle. Raju and passenger Iruthayaraju Andrews, 29, both of Melbourne, had minor injuries.

Harsha Paladugel, 22, and Malarkannan Kaliavaradhan, 23, also of Melbourne, sustained serious injuries.

The roadway, which was closed Sunday morning, has since reopened.
