RapidCity, SD : 49-year-old man killed in motorcycle crash near Rochford on Wednesday night, August 3, 2016

A 49-year-old man died in a Wednesday night motorcycle crash near Rochford, according to authorities.

According to a release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the man was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Rochford Road in Pennington County when he failed to negotiate a left turn.

The motorcycle hit a guard rail and the driver was thrown from the motorcycle. The driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was not wearing a helmet, according to the release.

The name of the deceased is not being released, pending notification of family. He was the only person involved in the crash.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and Rapid City Fire Department also responded.
