Carroll County, VA : Wytheville woman died in a single-vehicle accident in the Laurel section of Carroll County early Wednesday morning, Aug 5, 2015
A Wytheville woman was killed early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle accident in the Laurel section of Carroll County.
According to Virginia State Trooper C.H. Campbell, the accident took place on Stoneman Road (Route 741), about two-tenths of a mile north of Porterfield Road (Route 739) at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the Laurel section of Carroll County.
Campbell said Landon Connor Keith, 18, of Austinville, was operating a 2007 Jeep Wrangler, traveling north on Stoneman Road when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. Campbell said the Jeep went over an embankment and rolled over, ejecting a passenger through the top of the Jeep before the vehicle rolled over top of the passenger.
Campbell identified the deceased as Chelsea Lynn Thompson, 21, of Wytheville. He said Thompson was originally from Shady Spring, West Virginia, and just turned 21 on Sunday.
Keith, the driver, received minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene, Campbell said. A second passenger, William Jarrett McGuire, 18, of Max Meadows, received minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released. Campbell said Thompson was sitting on the center console of the Jeep and not in a seat. She was not wearing a seatbelt, he added.
“At this time, the accident is still under investigation. I have talked to the (Carroll County) Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and they are looking into what charges to place,” Campbell said. “Charges will be pending. It does appear there was some alcohol and other factors involved.”
Campbell said the Virginia State Police’s crash construction team was on site early Wednesday morning and that the accident is still under investigation. Carroll County EMS and the Carroll County Fire Department also responded to the scene.
