Bagley Twp, MI : Gaylord man died in motorcycle-car crash on Krys Road in Otsego County on Tuesday, Sep 1, 2015

A 37-year-old man is dead after he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a car in Northern Michigan.

Joseph Matelski II, of Gaylord, was riding a 2004 Honda Shadow north on Krys Road in Otsego County's Bagley Township the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 1. About 7 p.m., he lost control of his bike, crossed the center line and crashed into the side of a 2004 Ford Mustang that was heading south, according to Michigan State Police troopers from the Gaylord Post.

The driver of the Mustang, a 53-year-old Gaylord woman, tried to avoid the crash by veering off the roadway, according to police.

Otsego County EMS transported Matelski to Otsego Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery in order to stabilize him so that he could be airlifted by North Flight to Munson Medical in Traverse City, police said. He eventually died of injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, though they added Matelski was wearing a helmet.

Troopers are still investigating the incident.
