Prescott, AZ : Motorcyclist hurt in single-vehicle crash on Highway 89 south of Prescott on Thursday morning, April 30, 2015

A motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday morning, April 30, when he crashed his bike on a sharp turn on Highway 89 south of Prescott.

The rider was a man in his mid-50s, headed south, according to Prescott Fire Department Battalion Chief Cory Moser, who said he had apparently "laid it down" in a corner at about milemarker 303 - six miles south of Prescott.

The victim, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix. The road was closed in both directions for about an hour, while medics treated the rider and the Native Air helicopter landed to pick up him up.

"He was awake" when firefighters arrived, Moser said, and "a lot of folks stopped to help out."

Arizona Department of Transportation partially reopened the highway at about noon. Traffic shares one alternating lane of travel; drivers should expect delays and allow for extra travel time. There is no estimated time to fully reopen the highway, ADOT reported.
