West Covina, CA : Seven people injured in multiple-vehicle crash on 10 Freeway, east of Holt Avenue on Monday morning, Sep 21, 2015

Seven people were injured Monday morning in a collision involving multiple vehicles and a tractor trailer on the westbound 10 Freeway, east of Holt Avenue.

California Highway Patrol Officer Chan Park said the truck driver, Salvador Vidales, 54, of Baldwin Park, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a drug. The violation is a misdemeanor.

The CHP shut down four westbound lanes due to the crash which was reported at 5:49 a.m. A big rig carrying I-beams was heading to a job site in Los Angeles.

The truck rear-ended several vehicles, according to Park. It started a chain reaction.

He said there were nine vehicles involved including the big rig.

Seven people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate, the officer said.

Park said Vidales was among the six people taken to hospitals. He was cited for the DUI.
