Florida Highway Patrol identified the victim in the single car crash on US-27 in Glades County on Saturday. He is 78-year-old Richard McGoogan of Sebring.
The crash happened on US-27 near Lykes Road -- about 9 miles north of Moore Haven -- at 5:40 a.m.
Troopers say a Toyota Sienna was traveling north on US-27 toward Sebring. McGoogan failed to negotiate a right curve and left the roadway. The vehicle then re-entered the highway, but over corrected to the left.
The Toyota ended up crashing into a cantilever mast for a railroad crossing.
First responders attempted to extricate the driver as the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. However, they were unsuccessful.
McGoogan was wearing a seat belt. Investigation into the cause is pending.
