WALPOLE, MA : Walpole police officer injured in South Street crash on Monday, 7th January 2019
A Walpole police officer was taken to the hospital via helicopter after a one-car crash on South Street Monday afternoon, police said.
Deputy Chief Christopher Mackenzie said the officer - whom the department did not name at this point - did not sustain life-threatening injuries in the incident, but was transported via MedFlight helicopter for precautionary reasons.
According to a department release, the crash - involving a police cruiser - took place at around 1:57 p.m. near 399 South St. Mackenzie characterized the crash as significant, and said the state police would be investigating the cause of the accident.
A portion of South Street remained closed into Monday evening, as police awaited an accident reconstruction team.
