Lexington County, SC : Driver charged with DUI crash on I-26 near Piney Grove Road on Tuesday night, May 24, 2016
Lexington, South Carolina
The South Carolina Highway Patrol has charged a driver with DUI in a crash on Interstate 26 late Tuesday night.
The Highway Patrol says the crash involving four vehicles occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes near Piney Grove Road. Two of the vehicles overturned.
According to investigators, a vehicle was speeding in the right lane and rear-ended a slower-moving vehicle, causing it to run off the side of the road, hit a median and overturn. Troopers say the first vehicle then sideswiped another vehicle and caused that one to run off the road, hit a median and overturn.
The first vehicle then hit the concrete median, bounced off it and hit a third vehicle.
Troopers charged the driver, Duncan Harps, Jr. with DUI, possession of marijuana and open container. He was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center.
Investigators have not yet said how many people were injured.
The crash blocked the interstate for about 45 minutes.
