Gary, IN : Michigan City woman, 80, airlifted after Pine Township crash on Thursday, August 31, 2017
Two people suffered serious injuries, including one who was airlifted to a regional hospital, after an accident Thursday evening in Pine Township.
Deputies with the Porter County Sheriff's Department responded around 6:10 p.m. Thursday to a two-vehicle accident at U.S. 20 and Maine Avenue in Pine Township, according to a release from Sgt. Jamie Erow, the department's public information officer.An initial investigation showed a silver 2012 Chevrolet Impala driven by Noretta Pullins, 80, of Michigan City, was eastbound on U.S. 20 when she turned left onto Maine Avenue in front of a pickup truck that was westbound on U.S. 20, a report said.
The driver of the westbound vehicle was Patrick Ballinger, 31, of Chesterton, who was in a black 1998 Chevrolet S10.
First responders extricated Pullins from her car and she was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for incapacitating injuries. Ballinger was transported to Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Michigan City, with incapacitating injuries as well, the release said.
No citations were issued and both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
