Gainesville, FL : Woman flees traffic stop, crashes on Tuesday, January 17th 2017
A 31-year-old Gainesville woman was charged with fleeing from law enforcement and knowingly driving with a suspended license Tuesday afternoon.
La Shonda Rosalie Brown, of an apartment at 3500 Windmeadows Blvd., was spotted driving a Nissan sedan east on Northwest 8th Avenue doing 75 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone, a Gainesville police arrest report said.
Officer Cory Martin wrote that he had high emergency lights on, but the car kept speeding and the driver tried to turn onto Northwest 22nd Street, crashing into a curb. Despite having a locked wheel, the car then turned onto Northwest 21st Street, ran a stop sign at 7th Lane and then hit a tree at 2100 NW 7th Lane, the report said.
Brown told the officer she was trying to find a side street to stop, but couldn't tell him why she didn't stop "prior to completely disabling her vehicle by striking a tree," Martin's report said.
She then told him her accelerator got stuck, the report said. Brown was held in lieu of $9,000 bond Wednesday at the county jail.
