Dublin, CA : Motorcyclist died in a chain-reaction crash in southbound lanes just south of Bollinger Canyon Road early monday, Sep 21, 2015
A Martinez man who was the victim of a fatal chain-reaction collision early Monday on Interstate 680 that blocked traffic for hours has been identified, authorities said.
William Jimenez-Espinoza, 39, was the motorcyclist killed in a chain-reaction crash in southbound lanes just south of Bollinger Canyon Road at 4:38 a.m., the Contra Costa coroner's office said Tuesday.
Jimenez-Espinoza's motorcycle struck a Honda, after the car hit the back of a semitruck trailer at around 4:38 a.m., police said. The California Highway Patrol initially believed the motorcycle hit the trailer.
Police arrested the Honda's driver, identified as a 23-year-old Fremont resident, and charged him with felony driving under the influence and vehicle manslaughter while intoxicated, CHP Officer Derek Reed said Tuesday. Reed said the CHP would not be releasing the driver's name, as the incident was still under investigation.
At midday Tuesday, the driver was being held in West County Jail in Richmond on $150,000 bail.
