Detroit ,MI : Motorcyclist dies after collision with police car in suburban Detroit on wednesday night ,July 22 2015

Authorities say a 20-year-old man died when his motorcycle collided with a police car in suburban Detroit.

Police say the crash happened Wednesday night in St. Clair Shores. The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports the police car was turning around to make a traffic stop at the time of the crash.

Police Chief Todd Woodcox says in a statement that the crash "was a tragic accident and was not the result of a police pursuit."

WDIV-TV reports the victim's family identifies him as James Bush of St. Clair Shores and says he wanted to join the National Guard.

State police are investigating. Woodcox says the department "cannot undo the tragedy" but "can promise a full and complete investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash."
