Tampa,FL : Man faces DUI manslaughter charge in fatal Largo scooter crash on August, Sunday 20th 2017

A Clearwater man faces a charge DUI manslaughter after deputies say he fatally struck a scooter rider in Largo on Sunday night.

The crash occurred around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Rosery Road and N Missouri Avenue.

Deputies said James A. Mayer, 42, was driving a 2001 Ford F250 eastbound on Rosery Road when he attempted to turn northbound onto N Missouri Avenue.

Mayer turned into the path of David L. Stinger, 59, who was riding westbound, and struck him in the intersection, deputies said.

Stinger died at the scene, deputies said.

Mayer, who also was cited for driving with a suspended license, is being held at the Pinellas County Jail with bail set at $50,250, jail records show.
