Socorro, N.M : Santa Fe man dies in crash on Interstate 25 in Socorro County on Monday afternoon, July 18, 2016

Monday afternoon about 2 p.m., Socorro County Sheriff’s officers investigated a fatal crash on Interstate 25 at mile marker 135, south of Socorro.

The initial investigation indicated a vehicle traveling southbound entered the center median and rolled, coming to a stop in the northbound travel lanes and causing a collision with a second vehicle traveling northbound. The driver of the vehicle which lost control, identified as Modesto Cosio-Villa, 56, of Santa Fe, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor. This crash remains under investigation. New Mexico State Police assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
